Without proper training, organisations often use only a fraction of the capabilities built into Enterprise drones, and we see it on customer sites more often than you'd think. Plenty of suppliers can sell you a DJI Dock 3 or help you plan a deployment. Fewer can tell you what it's actually like to run one, because fewer have logged the hours doing it. DJI Dock 3 is a drone in a box. The aircraft lives on site in a weather rated dock, launches on a schedule or on demand, flies its mission, then returns to charge, with no pilot on the ground. Paired with a Matrice 4D or 4TD, it turns a drone from something you send a crew out to fly into permanent site infrastructure that works while everyone is asleep. We know what that takes because our team has done over 500 remote flights between us, and every deployment here is run end to end by our in-house certified DJI Dock Engineer.
A dock is not plug and play. It needs the right site assessment, power and connectivity, a flight plan that holds up in the real world, airspace and Part 102 approvals, a data handling plan, and someone keeping an eye on it once it's live. That's the deployment process we run on every install: site assessment, design, commissioning and handover, followed by ongoing operation from our own Remote Operations Centre here in New Zealand. It's not a project we hand off once the dock is bolted down.
That spans the full range of autonomous work: autonomous survey and mapping, infrastructure inspection, and drone security patrols, delivered as a fully managed DJI Dock service if that's what you need. Our Remote Operations Centre manages the fleet, schedules and flies the missions, and turns the output into reporting through DJI FlightHub 2, the platform that ties flight planning, live operations and data together in one place for operators across New Zealand.
We have also built our own Percepta system, in-house site awareness hardware and software developed by our engineering team out of a real aviation and aerospace background. It pulls visual monitoring, ADS-B, weather, communications and power status into a single interface. Nobody handed us a spec for that. We built it because we ran into these operational gaps ourselves during live deployments, and it isn't something you can buy or subcontract in, it only exists because we operate the fleet it was built for. Combine that with DJI Dock, FlightHub 2, remote operations and fleet management under one roof, and there are very few teams in New Zealand carrying all of it at once. There are two ways to get value from an Enterprise drone programme: build the internal capability yourself, or have a team that already operates at scale run it for you. Both are legitimate. But a drone in the business doesn't remove risk, it relocates it, and "we're legal under Part 101" is the floor, not an operating standard.
Running your own programme properly, especially anything approaching Part 102 certificated or remote and BVLOS work, is more than putting a competent pilot on the roster. It's a genuine aviation function, and it means:
None of that is a reason not to build in-house. Plenty of organisations should. But it's worth costing it as an aviation function, not a headcount, before you compare it to a managed service.

Hardware dates. DJI will release the next Matrice and the next Dock, and the one after that. We've already been through several generations of both since 2001.
